Fostering The West African Talents

In West Africa, our dedication to developing local talent is stronger than ever. One of our flagship initiatives is the Aggreko Apprenticeship and Training Programme in the Ivory Coast, launched in May 2022. This program reflects our deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals in the energy sector.
The initiative was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world experience. It offers students nearing the completion of their university or polytechnic degrees the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on exposure in a professional environment. The program’s focus areas are primarily electrical and mechanical engineering, core disciplines within Aggreko’s operations.

Partnership with Tertiary Education Institutions

Our apprenticeship program is built on collaboration. Aggreko works closely with universities and polytechnics across the Ivory Coast, building strong partnerships that ensure students receive both theoretical and practical training. These institutions nominate qualified candidates to participate in our program, ensuring a high level of academic and professional readiness among participants.
The training duration varies between three and twelve months, depending on university requirements and local labour laws. This flexible structure allows students to balance their academic commitments with professional learning, creating a well-rounded development experience.

Moulding Skills and Careers

Since the inception of the apprenticeship program, Aggreko has hosted between four and six trainees at any given time, ensuring each participant receives meaningful guidance and mentoring. Our approach emphasizes quality over quantity—we want every trainee to gain a comprehensive understanding of how our systems work, from energy generation to equipment maintenance and project execution.
As we speak, 23 trainees have completed the program. Impressively, 14 of them have continued their journey with Aggreko—four securing full-time employment and ten becoming contingent workers. These outcomes demonstrate that the program isn’t just an internship; it’s a real pathway into professional employment within a global organization.
Every trainee gains more than just technical expertise—they develop soft skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence, all of which prepare them for the challenges of the modern energy industry. They acquire skills that enable them to work in an international environment.

Thinking Locally and Acting Globally

Our goal in the Ivory Coast is not only to train young professionals but also to empower local talent to drive progress within their communities. By offering real-world exposure and mentorship from seasoned industry experts, we help bridge the gap between education and employment.
Aggreko’s training program aligns with our broader mission: to deliver sustainable energy while contributing positively to the economies and societies where we operate. As global demand for skilled energy professionals grows, we remain committed to creating opportunities that combine technical learning, career growth, and social impact.
This program also reflects our corporate values—integrity, innovation, teamwork, and accountability. We believe in creating an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone has the chance to succeed.

The Prospects of Apprenticeship at Aggreko

Aggreko plans to continue expanding its apprenticeship program in the Ivory Coast and beyond. By doing so, we aim to strengthen our local presence, build a pipeline of future leaders, and contribute to national workforce development.
Our long-term vision is clear: to be more than an energy company. We want to be a trusted partner in education, innovation, and sustainable development across Africa. If you’re a student or recent graduate specializing in electrical or mechanical engineering, and you’re eager to gain hands-on experience with a world leader in energy solutions, the Aggreko apprenticeship program could be your next big step.
