Introduction

Specific Information
- Duty Station: Bangkok, Thailand

- Supervisor: Head of Information Design & Technology Solutions (IDTS), Communication, Advocacy, Knowledge Management, and ICT Section of UNDRR
Interns will be immersed in projects that apply artificial intelligence and data management to global risk reduction initiatives. The position is designed to provide professional learning opportunities while making meaningful contributions to UNDRR’s mandate.
The assigned Tasks
The Information Management Intern will actively support the UNDRR team by contributing to the design, development, and implementation of AI-driven solutions and data management systems. Specific responsibilities include:
AI Model Development and Prototyping
- Assist in designing and prototyping AI algorithms.
- Contribute to models supporting projects such as damage and losses assessment systems, knowledge hubs, and unified data hubs with querying functionality.
Tool Development and Enhancement
- Contribute to building and improving internal tools for data processing.
- Support AI architecture improvements and machine learning model training pipelines.
Machine Learning Deployment
- Assist in the creation, deployment, and optimization of scalable machine learning models.
- Ensure focus on model efficiency and performance in real-world applications.
Research and Experimentation
- Conduct research using advanced AI technologies, including generative AI, deep learning, and natural language processing.
- Explore the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) and emerging AI tools to propose innovative solutions.
Data Preparation and Analysis
- Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends and insights.
- Preprocess large datasets to ensure they are suitable for model training.
Systems Integration
- Support the integration of AI solutions into existing workflows.
- Contribute to improving efficiency in organizational data management processes.
Project Monitoring and Documentation
- Track progress and evaluate AI-related projects.
- Document findings, challenges, and recommendations for future improvements.
Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of AI initiatives with UNDRR’s objectives.
- Share knowledge and contribute to organizational learning.
Additional Duties
- Support other assigned tasks related to information management and technology as required.

Needed Qualifications
To qualify for this internship, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Educational Background
Applicants must meet at least one of the following conditions:
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate program (second university degree or higher).
- Be in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level).
Preferred fields of study include:
- Data Science
- Artificial Intelligence
- Machine Learning
- Computer Science
- Information Technology or related disciplines
Technical Skills
Candidates are expected to demonstrate proficiency in:
- Programming: Proficiency in Python, commonly used for AI and data science applications.
- Frameworks: Knowledge of deep learning and machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn.
- Data Management: Experience working with large datasets to build scalable models.
- Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud (desirable).
- AI Interface Design: Basic knowledge of conversational AI design (desirable).

Addendum Information
- The internship is unpaid.
- All expenses, including travel, visas, accommodation, and living costs, must be covered by the intern or their sponsoring institution.
- Interns without Thai citizenship or permanent residency may be required to obtain a suitable visa and work authorization.
