About The PHC Unit

Primary Health Care (PHC) is widely acknowledged as a fundamental component of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
To realize UHC, health systems must be designed with a strong focus on PHC.
At Amref, one of its key strategic platforms is investing in people-centered, community-led health systems to support sustainable PHC.

Job Purpose

The PHC unit is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern to join its team.
The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the various initiatives aimed at advancing the strategic direction for PHC aligns with Sustainable Development Goals and the broader health agenda.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in public health, policy, research analysis, and healthcare systems strengthening to gain practical experience and contribute to the PHC ecosystem in Africa.

Key Responsibilities of Amref Kenya Internships

Research and Analysis: Conduct research on various aspects of PHC, including health systems strengthening, policy development, innovative approaches, and service delivery models. Analyze data and contribute to the creation of evidence-based resources.
Knowledge Generation: Assist in producing knowledge products, including policy briefs, blogs, articles, case studies, and presentations. Help in translating complex research findings into accessible formats for diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge Management: Support the PHC unit with collecting strategies and policy documents, updating existing platforms, attending meetings, and contributing to strategic discussions.
Advocacy Support: Contribute to advocacy efforts by assisting in the development of advocacy materials and communication strategies to promote activities both in the PHC and Health Systems Strengthening Directorate
Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the directorate and across the organization to integrate different perspectives into PHC-related projects.
Event Participation: Participate (and, where applicable, support organizing) workshops, webinars, and conferences related to PHC and health system strengthening
HSS Directorate: Support in Strategy alignment, technical assistance, and evidence generation and dissemination initiatives in the health system strengthening directorate.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

A bachelor’s degree/diploma in public health, health policy, international development, or a related field is highly desirable.
Strong interest in and understanding of primary health care, health systems strengthening, and global and regional health issues in African contexts.
Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it effectively.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team and adapt to a dynamic working environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
Proactive, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple tasks and
Knowledge of African health systems, policies, and development challenges is
