The Russian Government Scholarships South Africa 2026 Priority Fields DHET: Russian Government Scholarships for South Africans 2026 Fully funded studies in Russia – priority on green energy, engineering & more! The Russian Government, in partnership with South Africa’s Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), offers generous scholarships for South African citizens to study at top Russian universities in 2026/2027.
These Russian Government Scholarships South Africa 2026 Priority Fields DHET cover Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programmes. They’re fully funded and open to strong students seeking international experience. If you are late to apply this year, consider applying in the next academic year, 2027.

What the scholarship covers

  • Full tuition fees

Programmes are available in English or Russian. The academic year starts in September 2026.

Important note: Applications in health sciences will not be considered for 2026. If you plan to study engineering or other professional degrees, check with the relevant South African professional body to confirm the degree and university will be recognised back home.

Who can apply?

  • South African citizens
  • In good health (medical checks required)
  • Strong academic record (minimum around 60% average, higher marks preferred)
  • For Bachelor’s: Completed Matric / secondary school
  • For Master’s: Hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree
  • For PhD: Hold a relevant Master’s degree

How to apply

Applications involve two steps:
  1. Register and apply online via the Russian platform (Application window: 15 October 2025 – 15 January 2026)
  2. Submit the DHET application form + supporting documents to: russiaapplications@dhet.gov.za by 15 January 2026 (deadline is strict!)
