Boilermaker Job Vacancy at Barrick: North Mara Gold Mine Ltd, Mara 2026

Boilermaker Job Vacancy at Barrick. If you’re a skilled boilermaker looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity in the mining industry, I’ve come across something that might be your perfect next step. Barrick’s North Mara Gold Mine in the Mara Region is looking for a Boilermaker to join their Plant Engineering Maintenance Team.

This Boilermaker Job Vacancy at Barrick is more than just a job; it’s a chance to work for one of the world’s leading gold mining companies, right here in Tanzania. Let me walk you through everything you need to know. It is a great opportunity to learn and grow in your career.

What’s the Role About?

As a Boilermaker at North Mara, you’ll be a key part of the team that keeps the plant running safely and efficiently. You won’t just be fixing things when they break – you’ll be conducting inspections, fabricating new components, and ensuring all equipment operates at peak performance. You’ll be based at either the Gokona underground mine or the Nyabirama open pit, working with a team that values safety, integrity, and high performance above everything else.

What Will You Actually Be Doing?

The role is hands-on and varied. Here’s a taste of your daily responsibilities:

Safety First, Always

You’ll be expected to follow all health, safety, and environmental rules strictly. This means doing task risk assessments, following lock-out and permit-to-work procedures, and keeping your work area clean and organised. Barrick’s goal is zero harm, and every team member plays a part in that.

Maintenance and Fabrication

This is the core of the job. You’ll conduct daily inspections and perform both planned and unplanned maintenance on plant equipment. You’ll fabricate and weld metal structures like chutes, boxes, pipes, reducers, bends, and Y-pieces. You’ll repair steel structures of all sizes and apply protective coatings. You’ll also inspect pressure vessels, tanks, and piping systems to identify and repair defects. And you’ll need to read and interpret drawings and blueprints to understand exactly what work needs to be done.

Operational Support

You’ll help ensure all plant equipment runs within acceptable limits and report any issues quickly. You’ll complete maintenance work orders on time, remove defective parts safely, and manage equipment inventories. Sometimes you might also be asked to do basic mechanical fitting, rubber lining, or scaffolding work.

Staying Licensed and Competent

Barrick will expect you to maintain all necessary licenses and authorisations, including basic rigging, working at heights, and operating machines such as forklifts.

Do You Have What It Takes?

Qualifications
You need a technical or vocational education – think FTC, VETA, or an IMTT Trade Test, or something equivalent. Apprenticeship or on-the-job training counts too. You also need a solid understanding of mining safety regulations.
Experience
This is important: you need at least 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience working on heavy mobile or plant equipment. Experience in both open-pit and underground mining is essential. If you’ve done maintenance work in the mining industry before, that’s a big advantage.
Skills and Competencies
You should be proficient in welding techniques, including Arc, TIG, and MIG. You need to know your way around welding machinery, electrical equipment, and hand tools. Being able to read and understand technical drawings and manuals is a must. Strong hazard identification and risk assessment skills are essential. You’ll also need excellent written and verbal English communication, strong planning skills, and the ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision.
Licensing
You’ll need a VETA Driving Certificate and a valid Tanzanian driving license for classes B, C, D, and E. You must also be comfortable driving manual (stick-shift) vehicles.

Personal Qualities

Barrick is looking for someone physically fit and capable of handling demanding tasks. They want people who are motivated, engaged, and aligned with their core values – honesty, integrity, accountability, and a commitment to zero harm. You should be adaptable, performance-driven, and ready to contribute to a high-performing team.

Why This Job Is Worth Applying For

Working at Barrick comes with real benefits. You’ll get a competitive compensation package that includes bonuses and site-specific benefits. You’ll be part of a dynamic, collaborative, and high-performing work environment. There are continuous learning opportunities and room for professional growth. And because Barrick operates in 18 countries across five continents, there could be diverse career opportunities across the organisation down the line.
Plus, you’ll be working at North Mara, a world-class mining operation with both open pit and underground mines and a processing plant handling about 8,000 tonnes of ore per day. That’s serious scale. Moreover, it is located in East Africa.
